The Geek In Me

So now I know for a lot of you this will have no interest .. its not about gaming.. its not about mental health and its not about music.. its about how I generate the in game videos I create.

In part I am writing this because I am very chuffed that I have managed to get this sorted so a 1hr video renders to 720p in 20 mins.

So first up – If you need a good quality good value PC I whole heartedly recommend Dell’s refurbished machines – these are ex lease machines that have been returned to Dell for replacement or with issues that Dell has then fixed. They are usually less than 3 yrs old and normally come with a good amount of RAM, you will be able to find machines with NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards and also laptops. Because they are Dell machines the desktops are really easy to update and maintain, and the laptops are robust – personally unless you truly need to compute on the move I say — “get yourself a desktop” — it will last longer and be more robust.

OK so thats the machine explained.. I personally use an Dell Precision 3620 with an NVIDIA M2200 card inside.

To capture the video and base game audio I use NVIDIA GeForce Experience‘s game recorder, this functions really well and doesn’t interfere with game-play.

I then use Vegas Movie Studio 17 to edit the created video, render it to YouTube friendly size and upload it to YouTube – I personally got this, like I get most my games from Steam- I also recommend you keep an eye out for it on sale.

In order to speed up rendering – remove all unused channels from the project – if all you are rendering is the original video and its sound – this will run very quickly.

For anyone interested I use Twitch’s own studio software for streaming.

I created this blog as a place to discuss Mental health issues. I chose to include Music ,PC Gaming videos and more recently tabletop gaming as all of these have helped with the management of my Mental Health and I thought people who find the Blog for these may also find the Mental Health resources useful. I am aware that a lot of people with Mental Health concerns are not aware that this is what they have or how to go about getting help, I know I was one of these people for at least 10 years. Therefore if one person is helped by the content on my Blog, if one person discovers the blog and gets a better understanding of Mental Health through the videos I post, then all the work will have been worthwhile. If not.. well I am enjoying making the videos and writing the blog, and doing things I enjoy helps my mental health so call it a self serving therapy.
