Got to have a game of Blood bowl 7’s with my brother in law today using my new Sevens Board and rules from Death Zone. I picked up both of these from Warhammer Wolverhampton.
Todays game was the Halflings verses the Imperial Nobility.
Now this was my brother in law’s first game of 7’s, and first game of Blood bowl in a long time.

The halflings lost the toss and were forced to kick off. In turn 4 the nobles then pushed forward, injuring one of the halfling line men causing him to miss the rest of the game. Another was knocked out. The halflings responded by trying a sneaky foul – rolled a double and was sent of the pitch, he remonstrated with the ref who was having none of it. But that caused a turn-over and left a hole on their right wing, which in turn 5 the Imperial Nobles pushed forward and got the first touchdown. The knocked out halfling failed to wake up, and slightly disheartened the halflings received the ball and tried to push forward but there was no enough time and the first half ended 1-0 to the Nobles.
In the second half, the Nobles kicked to the halflings. The halfling moved the ball forward and formed a cage around it, in the first turn. The nobles hit back, but a bad block dice roll caused a turnover, ending their turn only. The halflings then chose to try a cheeky move and the tree man threw the ball carrier over the Nobles line of players.

Despite failing to get it on target, the player scattered one square closer to the touch down zone. Then the luck of the halflings continued when the carrier made his landing with a roll of a 6, then sprinted into the touchdown zone and scored.

The halflings then kicked to the nobles, they pushed forward. A lucky blitz by one of the halfling heavies knocked the ball free which bounced free behind the halfling line. The beginning of the next turn the tree man took root, the halflings managed to pick up the ball and get it next to the tree man.
The humans again had a bad roll which cut their next turn short, the halfling took the opportunity to throw the ball character forward again, this time it was a great on target throw and the landing went perfectly, again the carrier managed to get over the line.
Score was now 2-1 to the halflings, with only 1 turn left to play for each side. The halflings kicked off, humans picked the ball up pushed forward, tried a sneaky foul which stunned the target halfling. In the last turn of the game the halflings tried to foul a player on the floor, to no avail.
Great game, we really enjoyed it. The halfling had some good luck and the nobles some poor rolls.
The smaller pitch size really helped the halflings, as it made throw team mate more effective. This is because a short throw (roughly 7 squares) followed by the halfling standard move (5 squares) covers 12 squares which is 60% the length of the 7’s pitch, compared with being only 46% of the standard pitch.
If we include the potential 2 Going For Its, this ups the distance travelled to 14 squares or 70% of the 7’s pitch compared to 54% of a standard pitch, making the move even more effective.
I am looking forward to trying some more of the “less effective” teams in the 7’s format.
