Bolt Action: Free French – Part 1

So my Bolt action adventure has started, with the aim of building a late war Free French force.

I wish to include a mix of forces to represent

• The 2nd RCP – 2nd Parachute Chasseur Regiment (French: 2^e Régiment de Chasseurs Parachutistes) – which is the regiment my Grandfather fought with and was also referred to as the 4th SAS Regiment.
  • To represent these I have got a box of Bolt Action UK Parachutists.
• The 1st RCP – 1st Parachute Chasseur Regiment (French: 1^er Régiment de Chasseurs Parachutistes, 1^er R.C.P)  – the oldest Parachute regiment of the French Armed forces – This unit was re-equipped by the Americans and although not initially to be included, it may later turn up.
• The 1st Free French Division –  (French: 1^re Division Française Libre, 1^re DFL) – also renamed  1st Motorized Infantry Division (French: 1^re Division Motorisée d’Infanterie, 1^re DMI) – in 1943.
  • This provides the option to use Late War UK Uniforms and Equipment. – thanks to 501^e Régiment de chars de combat 501^e
  • It allows the inclusion of Tirailleurs thanks to multiple North African units
    • To represent these I got a box of Wargame Atlantic 1914-1940 French Infantry, these are also going to be used to represent some poorly equipped French units and include colour in the rest of the 1st Free French Division.
  • This also provides the option of using Late War USA Uniforms and Equipment thanks to the re-equipping of the division by USA prior to the invasion of Italy and France.
    • To represent these I got a box of the Bolt Action USA GI’s, which I am going to mix with the Wargames Atlantic figures to represent various units.
    • I also picked up a Rubicon M8 Greyhound to provide a recce vehicle for the forces.
  • I will also be using some 3d printed models to provide 2 1/2 tonne trucks, jeeps and other transports.

I have so far learnt that the soft hats in the Wargames Atlantic box set are not valid for the proposed forces, as you can see from this sample of my WIP – this was not until I had added a couple to figures — oops
