The Daughters of the West are a gang available from Great Escape Games for their Dead Man’s Hand Wild West skirmish game. The rules for them are available for free to download from Great Escape Games website, and are also suitable for use with characters you can create using their Gunfighters 2 plastic box set. Their special cards come with the Gang set or can be bought at Great Escape Games.
The metal model set comes with 8 models – 1 with a repeater, 1 with a shotgun, 1 armed with 2 pistols and the rest with single pistols. As with all gangs at least half the gang must have pistols. This is a strange set as under the rules none of the characters are armed with 2 pistols.
From the Store page The Daughters of the West have the following write up.
Details
Great escape games
In a society that often treats them as a commodity or a mere plaything, some women have a strength of character that rejects a world of inequality at the barrel of a gun.
Whether their former lives have been blighted by murder, servitude or dispossession, these “Daughters of the West” drive their own destiny in spite of the Old West’s misogyny and oppression.
In a fight for natural justice, some may break the laws of men; in a fight for vengeance, some may break the laws of God.
The Daughters have 4 model types
The Leader – a gang must have 1 of these and she is armed with a pistol – Mine is Dot “Dusty” Dee
The Gun Fighter – Mine is Eileen “Grandma” – a gang doesn’t have to have a gun fighter but can take upto 1, who is then armed with a pistol. This and the leader are my choices from the figures not sure that there are specified ones.
Ladies – the gang must have at least 2 of these, they can be armed with a shotgun, pistol or repeater but only 1 may have a shotgun.
Soiled Doves – the gang can include upto 4 of these, they can have pistols or repeaters.
The Great Escape Games Gunfighters 2 allows you to design and make your own Gang, these can be enhanced with parts from the Gunfighter kit or any other bits you have lying around – below are a few examples from my meagre attempts.
Their 2 special rules are
- HELL HATH NO FURY – this is a once per game rule – it allows for a single turn all of the Daughters to ignore negative to hit modifiers for enemies in substantial cover.
- NEVER UNDERESTIMATE US – Each turn 1 model may claim the benefit of substantial cover even if their not.
Their Jack, Queen, King and Aces cards also bring some interesting options
- ACE – “I’m gonna kill you if I have to ride all the way to Hell to do it” – Must be played at the start of a turn after initiative has been shown and is played against the Enemy with the lowest initiative card. For the rest of the turn all shooting results of 11-14 count the same as those for 15-18 i.e. Under fire marker and Nerve test.
- KING – “Look here, I don’t let my friends get hurt” – this can be played when one of the Daughters takes a hit that puts her out of action, so long as there is a friendly model within 10cm. If there is that model moves into contact and suffers the result of the shot instead of the original model. This is a great way of potentially sacrificing a Soiled Dove to save a better character.
- QUEEN – “You touch her again you’re a dead man” – unlike most cards, this one once activated stays active for the rest of the game, or more likely until the target goes out of action. You can play it as soon as one of the daughters is taken out of action, and you play it against the model that caused the outrage, all future shots against the marked enemy model get an extra +1 to hit. As I said till the end of the game or until the outrage causer goes Out of Action. Although I suppose you could continue pumping lead into a dead body if you really wished.
- JACK – “I might not know who I am, but I know who I am not” – this can be played on an opponents model when an opponent declares that models actions, the model only gets to perform its first action.
So I believe I’ll go back to the core rules and do The Lawmen, The Outlaws, The Cowboys and the Desperados.
