The Dead Man’s Hand Wild West skirmish game available from Great Escape Games, has a supplement The Legend of Dead Man’s Hand which introduces 4 more gangs, campaign rules and some other interesting rules..
The Banditos are one of these gangs their stats can be downloaded from Great Escape Games website, and are also suitable for use with characters you can create using either Gunfighter plastics or Gunfighters 2 plastic box set.
Their gang specific cards are included in the LODMH Card set – which comes with the rules or can be bought separately.
The metal set comes with 7 Models, 1 with 2 pistols, 1 with a shotgun, 2 with rifles/repeaters and 3 with pistols.
The Legend of Dead Man’s hand has the following to say about the Bandito’s
For years we have watched men heading south in to Mexico to escape the law. We have walked a different path all our lives, this path has lead us north on to the streets of Dead Man’s Hand.
Legend of Dead Man’s Hand – Great escape games
The North is full of rich cattle barons and banks bursting with so much money and gold that they struggle to keep it all in.
We are here to help out, taking on the burden from those too weak to carry or protect it themselves.
There are 4 character types available to the bandito’s
Honcho – a gang must have 1 of these and they are armed with a pistol – Now I believe that there is nothing so deadly as the female of species and my Banditos are led by the “Kiss of Death” and comes armed with a Plethora of Pistols
Charro – a gang doesn’t have to have a Charro but can take upto 1, who is then armed with a plethora of pistols. Let me introduce to you “El Duque Muerte”
Caballeros – the gang must have at least 2 of these, they can be armed with a plethora of pistols, rifle or repeater and 1 may have a shotgun.
Vaqueros – the gang can include upto 4 of these, they can have pistols and upto half can have rifles. I have built one of mine from the a mix of the 2 plastic gunfighter kits.
So I can hear you asking whats this “Plethora of Pistols” all about – well its the same as 2 pistols for the desperados and means that the model ignores the out of ammo result on the shooting table and instead counts it as a miss. Remember at least 1/2 the gang must have a pistol or Plethora of pistols as their sole weapon.
The Banditos have 2 special rules
- STRENGTH IN NUMBERS – so long as there are more Banditos on the table than opposition they get a bonus -1 on their nerve test verses shooting.
- AMBUSH – this is a very rare rule, as it has to be played at the start of the game after all models have been set up. When activated the Bandito player may remove a Caballero from the table claiming it is setup in ambush, why do I think the guy with the shotgun is best. After this at the start of any turn before initiative cards are placed, the player may place the model anywhere on the gaming table so long as they are no closer than 20cm of any enemy. This of course will effect the STRENGTH IN NUMBERS rule until the model returns.
Their Jack, Queen, King and Aces cards also bring some interesting options
- ACE – “Human Shield” – this is a variant of the hostage card the outlaws have, like to outlaw it is played when an opposing model declares a shooting action against a Bandito. however unlike the hostage card the Human Shield does not limit the models actions and stays until a shooter scores an under fire marker against the model, at which point the result is nullified and the Human shield is lost.
- KING – “We don’t need no stinkin’ badge” – this is a super trump card – it can trump any card played by an opposing player.
- QUEEN – “Guerrilla” – This is another version of ambush, play the card before any initiative cards are played. Remove a Caballero or Vaqueros model from play. The player returns it the start of the following turn before initiative cards are placed, the model can be placed anywhere so long as it is not within 20cm of any enemy. If you time this card well you could combine it with ambush and have 2 characters appear.
- JACK – “Dynamite” – this card can only be played on Caballeros or Vaqueros and must be played as soon as you activate the model. This turn the model throws – yes you guessed it dynamite at a target at least 10cm away and no further than 20cm away, with a -1 to hit in addition to any other modifiers. If the result is 1 or less the Thrower goes out of action – if the result is over 11 the target is put out of action.
