These are the second set of the troops for 02 Hundred Hours from Grey for Now Games Desert Raid set, they are some more sculpts from Artizan Designs and as I understand it were not specially designed for the release and as such are available directly from Artizan on their website.
I have chosen to paint these up with a hotch potch of coloured gear including quite a bit from the early war colonial uniform, as they will represent back line troops most likely stuck on a base and also will enable them to be fit in better if they are used in other theatres, I have also painted them as Sun rouged rather than Sun Tanned hence reddening skin.
I really recommend the 02 Hundred game and I look forward to seeing these used in the near future.
I have been asked how the bases were done on the last few miniatures I’ve painted – as the process has been the same for all, I thought I’d share it here.
Once the figures have been cleaned trimmed of excess flash – I glue them to their bases. Once this has dried I apply Vallejo Weathering Effects – European Thick Mud to the bases, I use a metal Cuticle pusher to do this as it is easy to clean and easy to do.
Once the mud has dried – I under coat the model. Depending on the intended colour scheme I either undercoat with a Light Grey, Black or Khaki.
Once the undercoat is dry, I then paint the miniature not worrying about colour spillage on the base. When the miniature is ready for dry brushing, I then cover the base using Vallejo Game Wash – Dipping Formula Sepia, do this with a brush and apply it quite thickly.
I then leave the base to dry, then apply a wet dry brush of a deep base colour – Golden Yellow for desert, dark green for temperate, dark grey for snow. If I have accidently got colour on the figure I am now able to correct it before applying highlights.
As I dry brush highlight the figure I also apply successive layers of drybrushe highlights to the base.
The final step is to varnish with Matt varnish.
Hope that Has been helpful and when I do my next set , If I remember, Ill take some photos in progress.
